The primary way to enhance immune function is to have an adequate level of antioxidants.
Antioxidants are known to protect mitochondria from oxidative stress, allowing for more efficient energy production.
As we age, accumulated damage to the mitochondria reduce energy levels. Antioxidants can reverse this. Having more energy enables the immune system to respond faster to infection. C60 is one of the most powerful antioxidants and is unique due to its small size.
The immune system responds to viral infection by producing free radicals in the vicinity of the viral particles. This is done in order to destroy the viral particles. This response is like a shotgun blast, destroying both the pathogen and nearby healthy cells. The damage can be severe. In fact, most people who die from a viral infection, suffer severe damage caused by their own immune system.
Antioxidants can mute this response, reducing damage to healthy lung tissue, without impairing destruction of the pathogen. Antioxidants have been shown to enhance immune strength. This improved response reduces pathogenic viruses and can reduce the likelihood and severity of infection.
ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. It’s a lab test designed to quantify the “total antioxidant capacity” of a substance. The ORAC value is the measurement of the free radical fighting strength of an antioxidant. The higher the ORAC value, the more ability it has to reduce oxidative damage to the cells.
While this is true, it is only one factor in determining the measurement of the free radical fighting strength of an antioxidant. Size and polarity are other critical factors. C60 is the only antioxidant to combine all three factors: high ORAC value, small enough to diffuse through cell walls and non-polar nature to enable it to pass unrestricted through cell and mitochondrial walls.
